Company Version FAQ
Q1. How do I load AeroLog® so that we can use our network
server? We want to do this so that our IT people can backup the data
files on tape.
A. The best way to do this is to load the AeroLog®
Application Files to your local hard drive and the Data Files to your Network
Drive. This will allow your IT manager to back up your Data Files on a regular
basis.
During the setup procedure, you will be prompted for the location to load
your Data Files.
The default (company version) is c:\program files\aerolog\pilots. Simply
change this to z:\program files\aerolog\pilots. This assumes that z is the
network drive letter.
When prompted for the location to load your Application Files, accept
the default c:\program files\aerolog.
Q2. Which files should we be backing up.
A. Data0001.mdb, data0002.mdb, data0003.mdb ..... Any other
files can be reloaded from the setup software.
Q3. We would like to set up AeroLog® so that it can be accessed
from two different computers, one in our operations office and the other in
the pilots crew room. Is this possible?
A. Yes! INSTRUCTIONS:
Let us assume that you have two computers both connected to a Network Server.
The best way to load the software is to have the APPLICATION files on the
local hard disk (c:\ drive) of each computer and the DATA files on your network
server.
1. Load Aerolog® from the CD ROM. Run setup.exe.
2. During the load you will be prompted "Please specify the location to
install APPLICATION files." Accept the default: c:\Program Files\aerolog
3. During the load you will be prompted "Please specify the location to
install DATA files."
The default is: c:\Program Files\aerolog\pilots
Change this to Z:\Program Files\aerolog\pilots
*where Z is the mapped drive letter for your network server. This letter may
change from one computer to another.
(Please note: the data files can be located in any directory on the server.
It doesn’t have to be Z:\Program Files\aerolog\pilots. Z:\data or Z:\pilots or
Z:\Logbooks would all be OK. You may choose to enter your own directory name
depending on the layout of your server files.)
4. Complete loading the software.
You will now have application files on your local c:\ drive
"attached" to data on your network server.
5. Repeat on your second computer using the same procedure. If you used
Z:\Program files\aerolog\pilots for the data file location then use this same
location again. Be aware that the letter Z for the network
drive may change for different computers depending on how the drive letters are
mapped.
Notes:
1. When you load the software DATA files are never overwritten. Hence, if you
wished to load software onto a third computer, use the same procedure and any
previous data will remain intact.
2. If you uninstall the software, DATA files are not deleted. If necessary,
these files must be deleted manually via the Windows® explorer.
3. For your IT person. Files data0001.mdb, data0002.mdb, data0003.mdb ...
data0013.mdb and pilotlst.mdb are the ones that must be backed up regularly.
4. If you ever need to reattach to data files in a different directory,
choose "Reattach Data Files" from the "Records" menu.
5. If the network server is too slow, you may have to load all files
(Application and Data) to the local c:\ drive and backup to the network server.
6. You may distribute data files to your pilots so that they can access their
data on their home computer.
Q4. We have a version for 50 pilots. How do we enter a new route
and have it automatically copied to all 50 pilots data files.
A. You must upgrade to version 3.00.13 or higher. Any
data entries or changes have the option to copy data to all the data files for
pilots marked as current. Please down
load the latest version of AeroLog® from this website.
Q5. We have AeroLog® running at the office. On of our
pilots wanted to know if he could use AeroLog® on his laptop to keep his own
copy of his log book in parallel withe the company records.
A. Yes. Your pilot can purchase a single user version from
FlightAce® Software and you can email the data file to him at regular
intervals. (see also Q6.)
Q6. My company emailed me my data file data0123.mdb. How do I
access this file data on my home computer?
A. You must own a single user version of the software
and load it onto your home computer. Use Windows® Explorer to place
data0123.mdb into c:\program files\aerolog before opening the software. Start
the software. The personal Activation
Code will need to be entered.
Q7. We have AeroLog® running at the office and I also have
it on my home computer. I down load my data file from the company server at the
end of each month. I noticed that the company version warns the user to
"Back up your data files now", however with the single user version
there is no such warning. What should we do with regard to backing up?
A. The Single User Version backs up AUTOMATICALLY to the
local hard disk. The company version does NOT back up automatically. This is not
practical when there are a large number of pilots.
Files data0001.mdb....data0020.mdb must be backed up OFF SITE.
Q8. When we add a new route to a pilots data file we get a
pop up asking if we want to write this new route to all data files. Is it
possible to turn this feature off?
A. Yes. In version 3.00.013 and later. Click "Default
Settings" from the "Setup" menu. "Data Updating"
(middle right) may be set to Manual, Automatic or Off.
If necessary, contact us.
Q9. I have been
using AeroLog® Single User Version. I now want to upgrade to a Company
Version. What is the procedure?
A. 1. Back up your files
logdata.mdb, backupnew.mdb and backupold.mdb to a floppy disk. See
question 15 for information about Windows® Explorer and backing up.
2. Go to Start/Programs/AeroLog®/Uninstall to Uninstall
the AeroLog® application.
3. Use windows explorer to locate and delete ALL files on
your hard disk named logdata.mdb. There may be 2 or 3 of these files lurking
around in c:\program files\aerolog and also in
the recycle bin.
4. Reload AeroLog® from your CD and choose "Company
Version" during the load procedure.
Notes:
1. If the only option that you get is "Single
User", it means that there is a copy of logdata.mdb still on your hard
disk.
2. You will need a new activation code for a Company
Version.
3. It is not permitted to have a "Single User
Version" and a "Company Version" on the same computer.
Q10.
We cannot print from
AeroLog® after installing Windows XP Service Pack 2. How do we fix this problem.
A. Upgrade to AeroLog® Version 4.0.007
Service Pack 5 or higher.
