FlightAce® Country Airstrip Guide Australia Online

1.  What are the computer requirements?

A.  Pentium III class computer or better with  broadband internet connection.

Minimum configuration:
    Operating System: Windows XP
    CPU: Pentium 3, 500Mhz - System Memory (RAM): 128MB RAM
    Hard Disk: 400MB free space
    Network Speed: 128 Kbits/sec
    Graphics Card: 3D-capable with 16MB of VRAM
    Screen: 1024x768, "16-bit High Colour" screen
 
Recommended configuration:
    Operating System: Windows XP
    CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz+ or AMD 2400xp+
    System Memory (RAM): 512MB RAM
    Hard Disk: 2GB free space
    Network Speed: 768 Kbits/sec
    Graphics Card: 3D-capable with 32MB of VRAM
    Screen: 1280x1024, "32-bit True Colour" screen

2.  What are the software requirements?

A.  Microsoft Windows XP or Vista. For full functionality, Adobe Acrobat and Google Earth is required.

3. Will the airstrip software run on Windows® NT, Windows® 2000, Windows® 95 or Windows® 98?

A.  The software may run on other versions of Windows®, however it has only been tested on Windows® XP and Windows Vista. At this stage there are no plans to test the software on older versions of Windows®.

4 Will the airstrip software run on Mac or Linux Operating System?

A.  No. There are no current plans to support the Mac or Linux.

5.  Do I have to have the Google Earth Browser installed?

A.  No, however it is recommended for full functionality.

6.  How do I buy the FlightAce® Country Airstrip Guide Online software?

A.  The software is only available by download from the internet. The annual subscription is paid by buying an unlock code. The recommended payment method is via the PayPal® secure website.

7.  When I tried to install the software I got a message saying that the Dot Net framework was not installed. What does this mean?

A.  The Dot Net framework version 2.0 is required. Please follow the prompts to install it.

8.  Is the FlightAce® Country airstrip Guide software safe to install on my computer?

A. The software that you download is digitally signed. This is your guarantee that the software came from FlightAce® and that the software has not been altered since publication.

9. Can you step me through the installation process?

10.  My firewall keeps blocking the installation. What should I do?

A.  If you are operating on a secure network at your work place, contact your IT department and get them to carry out the installation.

If you are on your own personal, you may have to adjust your firewall settings to allow the installer to run. Most firewalls will give you the option to "accept" the installer or to "block" (deny) it. Refer to your firewall instructions.

Although it is not recommended, as a last resort for trouble shooting, you can switch off the firewall and then switch the firewall back on.

11.  I tried to download and install the software. After I clicked on the Run button, nothing happened. How do I fix this problem?

A.  Please be patient! The installer usually loads within 5 seconds, but depending on the speed of your internet connection, it may take up to a minute or so.

12. I installed the FlightAce® Country Airstrip Guide Australia Online software. Can I change the User Name?

A.  Yes, simply overtype it with your preferred user name.

13. After installing the FlightAce® Country Airstrip Guide Australia Online software, the email address on the screen was an old address. How do I change it to the correct address?

A.  Overtype it with your current email address.

14. After installing the FlightAce® Country Airstrip Guide Australia Online software, can I change the User ID Number?

A.  No. This number is unique to your computer and is required for registration. The field is disabled so that you cannot change it.

15. How do I pay my subscription and get my unlock code?

16. The 'View Airstrips' button is disabled and doesn't work. Why is this?

A.  You must unlock the software by paying your annual subscription and entering your unlock code. See previous question.

17I paid for and received my unlock code and it didn't work. What do I do now?

19.  I do not want to pay with a credit card online. Are there any other methods of payment?

A.  If you pay by PayPal®, you will receive your unlock code immediately. If you do not wish to pay by PayPal you may pay by:

(1). Direct credit to Westpac bank account, BSB: 036063, Account Number: 109577. Please attach your email address with your payment. We will email you back your unlock code.

(2) Credit card over the telephone: please call (08) 94461559 Mon-Fri between 0000 UTC and 0900 UTC.

20Why couldn't I see the airfield that  I was looking for on the satellite photo?

A.  Some of the satellite photos are up to two years old and some photos have poor resolution. Some strips can be difficult to sight at certain times of the year - for example, a grass strip in a grass paddock may be difficult to spot.

21From where does the airfield information originate?

A.  The data presented is extracted from the Country Airstrip Guide publishing database. This data has been researched since 1982 by FlightAce®.

22How current is the airfield data?

A.  We do an annual mail out prior to publishing each new edition of a Country Airstrip Guide. Also, we are constantly receiving updated information from airfield owners and pilots as changes are noted.

23 Is there a printed help manual  for the Airstrips Online software?

A.  There is no printed manual available for the FlightAce® Country Airstrip Guide Online software. For help, please go to the Help menu.

24.  I need to email a screenshot to product support. How do I do this?

A.  Press "Alt" and "Print Scrn" buttons simultaneously to copy the foreground window to the clipboard. Start your emailing software. Send a new email to productsupport@flightace.com. Click the mouse inside the body of the email and Press "Ctrl" and "V" buttons simultaneously to paste the screenshot into the email. Send your email.

25 The Country Airstrip Guide Australia takes a long time to load. How do I fix this?

A.  There are three things you can do. Get a faster internet connection, get a  faster processor and get more RAM.

26 My hard drive failed. How do I reload the Country Airstrip Guide Australia Online?

A.  Please go to the download page and follow the instructions to install the software. Buying and entering your unlock code will register the software for the next year. Advise productsupport@flightace.com of the problem. We will pro-rata refund your credit card for the current year.

27 I had  to reinstall the Country Airstrip Guide Australia Online. Why doesn't my original unlock code work?

A.  Unlock codes expire after a certain time period. See FAQ 26

33.  How do I renew my subscription to the Country Airstrip Guide Australia Online?

34.  Why is the print function on the Country Airstrip Guide pages is disabled?

A.  The FlightAce® Country Airstrip Guide Australia Online is designed for viewing on the screen only. Please refer to the software license agreement.

35.  Am I permitted to install the Country Airstrip Guide onto my laptop as well as my desktop?

A.  Subscription is on a 'per computer' basis. Please refer to the software license agreement.

36.  When I started the Country Airstrip Guide Online, a message said that I had been deregistered. I tried to enter my original unlock code but it did not work. How do I re-register?

A.  The original unlock code would have expired. To ensure that you have the latest version on your computer, please go to the download page and follow the instructions to install the software. Buying and entering your unlock code will register the software for the next year. Advise productsupport@flightace.com of the problem. We will pro-rata refund your credit card for the current year.

36.  I want to install the Country Airstrip Guide Online on my computer at work. Is this possible?

A.  The software must be installed and registered by your system administrator. You will be then be able to log in and use the software as a system user.

37. The software is hanging on start up. What should I do?

A.  Please go to the download page and install the latest version.

38My firewall keeps asking me if I want to accept or block the Country Airstrip Guide software. What should I do?

A.  Most firewalls will ask you if you want to allow or to block (deny). When you start the Country Airstrip Guide Online, choosing allow will set the parameters in the firewall so that it will not be blocked (denied) in the future.

If the firewall continues to block the Country Airstrip Guide Online, you may have to adjust the firewall settings manually. Set the the Country Airstrip Guide Online as a program to be accepted by your firewall. Refer to your firewall instructions.

39. I have Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 installed on my computer. The Country Airstrip Guide software starts OK, but when I try to select a state, I am getting a warning message from Trend Micro about suspicious activity to do with dll files and program library injection.

A.  Open the Trend Micro Software, click "Virus and Spyware controls", click "Prevent Unauthorized Changes", click "Settings", under "Program Library Injection", change to "Always allow". OK all this and reboot computer.

Start the Country Airstrip Guide software, the warnings should not appear this time.

Now reopen the Trend Micro Software, click "Virus and Spyware controls", click "Prevent Unauthorized Changes", click "Settings", under "Program Library Injection", change to "Ask when necessary". OK all this and reboot computer.

Start the Country Airstrip Guide software, the warnings should not appear.
